Strategies to Develop Your Pre-Shot Routine
The seconds concerning the time you tee up the golf ball, or come up to the golf ball in the fairway, and actually hit it will probably determine how effective the shot will be. Will that be a time while those mental demons creep in, making you lose focus? By employing your pre-shot routine that is tailored for your requirements, there’ll merely be time to focus on the job at hand. So why does each superior golfer have an efficient pre-shot routine as part of his Golf Swing Basics? Because it works!
Basically, your pre-shot agenda is really a sequence of checkpoints, thoughts, movements, and a focus to details before hitting a golf shot. It should be unique to each golfer, and it’s best when it fits the golfer’s character. In other words, when a golfer during his daily schedule moves through life in warp-speed, he would not employ a deliberate, meticulous routine. Similarly, should you be a more unhurried person, that slower schedule may fit you better.
So what may your pre-shot agenda appear to be? As I can simply stress its importance and what components go into it, I can’t tell you what is best for you. Therefore I will describe what I employ previous to each shot, and maybe you can draw some ideas.
1. Before I choose a club, I stand behind the golf ball and create in my mind the shot. This does not mean only yardage. I think about wind direction and intensity, how the golf ball is carrying that particular day, the way I’ve been striking the golf ball, and I leave a margin for error from problem places.
2. Choose a club. Even if I had already pre-determined my club before visualizing my shot, I always carry one or two, and occasionally three, additional clubs with me. Should I change my mind after selecting the proper shot, trying to strike that shot with a club I am uncomfortable with will almost definitely end up poorly. That is the most important explanation why I always prefer to walk the golf course when doable; all your tools are always there with you.
3. Choose your target. I do this from behind the golf ball, after which I align a spot approximately five feet on line and before the golf ball. That is where I will establish my stance and my clubface toward. I’ve found in the course of practice that this offers me a greater reliable set-up with the target.
4. Prior to setting my feet, I locate the club on the exact place I would like it to hit the golf ball. I know that when something mechanical goes amiss with my swing, a great deal can be corrected if I hit the golf ball well. Then I set my left foot with the golf ball, then my back foot.
5. Then after one last look at the target, to set-off the swing (I think this is essential) I to some extent push the hands forward previous to drawing the club in the backswing. This “activate mechanism” provides a consistent starting position to start the swing.
As I said before, your pre-shot routine is personal, so you must figure out what is the best fit for you individually. But it should be part of every player’s Simple Golf Swing, and to play your most reliable golf, you must deal with this crucial aspect of golf.
