Travel Suggestions: Check Lists Before Leaving
When we are scheduled to go on a trip we get so impatient to leave the house that we lose sight of some basic precautionary measures. So what you should do is prepare a list of what to do that you can refer to before leaving the house. These precautions will keep you from being surprised with some unfortunate events when your get back home.
Reminder One: No one would be using the water heater so turn it down low.
Item Two: If it is summertime, set the air conditioner to a low degree. Never mind your power bill, what matters is that your pets will not swelter in the heat and your electronics are protected.
Item Three: If it is springtime or fall, you can lower your heater setting. On the other hand, your house should be sufficiently warm in winter. Your pets and water mains have to be protected even at the cost of paying more for your power bills.
Reminder Four: Do not give any idea that you are not home, so leave things like your drapes or shades as they should normally be.
Item Five: Have a radio that is programmed to turn on and off at different times to give the impression that the house is occupied.
Reminder Six: Close and lock all access in and out the house.
Reminder Seven: Unplug everything unless otherwise necessary, not only will it avoid accidental fires but also prevent damage to appliances and electronics during storms. Do not leave your phone line connected to the modem. However, if your computer serves as the answering machine, you have no choice but to leave it hooked up. Install the necessary power safety devices.
Item Eight: Leave your car in the garage with the door closed, so passersby will not know that you will be away for some time.
Ninth: Remove connections to the garage door. You may unplug it if possible, and dont just pull out the fuse for the garage without checking if it is connected to other appliances that needs to be kept running.
Do the things enumerated above and you will have nothing to worry about. Satisfied that you have left nothing at home to chance, you can go on and have a great and pleasurable holiday, as holidays are meant to be.
