Wesley Sneijder once again inspired the Netherlands as they reached a first World Cup Final for the first time since 1978 with a hard-fought and unspectacular victory in Cape Town.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst lashed them in front with a powerful strike before Diego Forlan’s equaliser took the sides in level at the break.
Sneijder restored the advantage with a deflected effort and Arjen Robben glanced in a header to to put the Dutch firmly in control.
They were given a late scare when Maxi Pereira pulled a goal back for Uruguay in stoppage time, but it as too little, too late for the South Americans.
